African Music
I am beginning to become a bit of an African music aficionado and am trying to learn as much about it as possible. One of the more interesting tidbits I have learned while doing research is that most of our popular music today has African roots. One of the blogs that I have come across was by Joseph Odindo and it expresses the uniqueness and history of African music.
What separates Joseph Odindo’s blog from other African music blogs is how he relates traditional African music into today’s hit music. An example of this is Paul Simon and his album called “Graceland.” He writes that, “Graceland features an eclectic mixture of musical styles including pop, a capella, rock and mbaqanqa. Much of the album was recorded in South Africa and featured many South African musicians and groups.”
I though this was an excellent example of how African music has influenced our popular music today and look forward to more of Joseph Odindo’s blogs to learn about African music and how it has influenced our musical heritage.
